We continue to accept applications for the I Lidia V. Myasnikova International Vocal Competition which will take place within 27 November — 1 December, 2020 in Novosibirsk

The Competition format has been changed

 

In order to prevent the spreading of COVID-19, the Competition will be held in two formats:

  1. Live competition (in full accordance with the information and requirements published earlier);
  2. Extramural competition via video-recordings. Program requirements for participants of both formats are identical. Videos for each round must be recorded on one video camera from the same point so that one could see the participant at full height. They must be recorded as single video clips, no cutting or dividing the file into separate vocal pieces is allowed. Video files must be named in the following order: the participant’s name and surname, category, their age group, round number, for example: Mary Smith, III category, group A, 2 round. The recordings must be uploaded on YouTube, links to videos must be sent to rmc-nsglinka@yandex.ru before 15 November, 2020. Each participant bears responsibility for the availability of their link. Those participants who have sent the videos after the given date, or whose links are not working, will not be judged by the jury.

The jury will announce laureates and diploma winners in each format. The results will be announced on 1 December. Winners’ diplomas and certificates of acknowledgement for teachers, who have prepared extramural participants, will be sent in an electronic form. You can request them in printed form before 15 November (it is necessary to indicate the precise postal address with index, full name and contact number of the recipient). We will send them by post before 10 December.

 

The entrance fee is the same for both formats participants and estimates at:

4000 roubles from a single participant of the I-IV categories;

5000 roubles from a duet;

6000 roubles from a trio;

8000 roubles from a quartet.

For live competition participants (except III category): the fee should be paid either in cash when arriving at the Competition (while registering), or through the banking details provided at the website www.nsglinka.ru in the section “General Information” – “Structure of the Conservatoire” – “Banking Details”.

Extramural competition participants and III category live competition participants should note that the fee should be paid through the banking details provided at the website www.nsglinka.ru in the section “General Information” – “Structure of the Conservatoire” – “Banking Details” before 15 November, 2020, with the obligatory confirmation of the entrance fee payment sent to rmc-nsglinka@yandex.ru. The participants who have not paid the fee on time will not be judged by the jury.

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS

 

The I Lidia V. Myasnikova International Vocal Competition (hereinafter referred to as the Competition) shall be organized and held by the M. I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatoire (hereinafter referred to as the Conservatoire).

The Competition is held every three years and is aimed at developing the traditions of vocal art, finding and supporting gifted young academic singers.

The Competition is intended to help:

— perfect the execution of soloists and vocal ensembles;

— advance the qualification level of vocal teachers at educational institutions of culture and art;

— strengthen creative ties between the Conservatoire professional educational institutions of culture and art.

 

COMPETITION CONDITIONS

 

The Competition is held among the students, graduates and teachers of children’s music and art schools, vocal studios, students of music colleges, culture and art colleges, music and theatre institutes majoring in academic singing.

The participant should choose a category appropriate for their age on the date of the Competition. The order in which the participants will perform is determined by drawing lots and shall remain the same until the end of auditions.

The Competition consists of one round for the I and V categories, two rounds for the II and IV categories, and three rounds for the III category. Only those participants who have scored no less than 19 points at the 25-pointed estimate system will be admitted to the second round.

Those wishing to compete must submit their applications (see an Application form below) before 20 October, 2020. Applicants should also attach a scan of a document confirming their age. Regardless of the way of submitting the original application form, it is obligatory to have an electronic Word document filled. There can be no changes in the program after 20 October, 2020.

The first round in the III category is held via video recordings.  It is obligatory for the participants of the III category to download the video recording of the first round program onto YouTube and send a link to it as well as the confirmation of the entrance fee payment to rmc-nsglinka@yandex.ru before 15 November, 2020. The results of this round will be sent to the participants’ e-mails before 20 November, 2020.

It is obligatory for the participants of the III category (III round) and IV category (II round) to perform a piece from L. V. Myasnikova’s repertoire.

A participant can have a rehearsal with a standby accompanist (up to 10 minutes) before the first round (for the III category participants – before the second round) if needed. If you need a standby accompanist for one rehearsal and performance, you should mention that in your application form.

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

 

The Competition has the following categories:

 

The I categorystudents of children’s music and art schools, children’s culture and art centres, vocal studios (one round):

 

— group А: 8–10 year olds:

Program: any two varied compositions from the academic vocal repertoire up to the participant’s choice (total timing – no more than 8 minutes);

 

— group В: 11–13 year olds:

Program: two varied compositions from the academic vocal repertoire up to the participant’s choice (total timing – no more than 10 minutes):

  1. A composition by a Western European composer;
  2. A composition by a Russian composer.

 

— group С: 14–16 year olds:

Program: two compositions from the academic vocal repertoire up to the participant’s choice (total timing – no more than 10 minutes):

  1. An aria;
  2. A romance or a song.

 

The II category – students of music colleges, colleges of culture and art majoring in academic singing (two rounds):

— group А: 1–2 years;

— group В: 3–4 years.

Program:

I round (no more than 12 minutes):

  1. An aria by a Western European composer of the XVII-XVIII centuries;
  2. A folk song.

II round (no more than 12 minutes):

  1. An aria from an opera by a XIX-XX centuries composer;
  2. A romance by a Russian composer.

 

The III categorystudents of music and theatre institutes (three rounds):

 

Program:

I round* (no more than 15 minutes):

  1. An old aria from an opera or an oratorio, or a concert aria by a Western European composer of the XVII-XVIII centuries;
  2. A folk song.

 

* The I round for participants of the III category is held in absentia via video recordings.

 

II round (no more than 15 minutes):

  1. An aria from an opera by a Western European composer of the XIX-XX centuries;
  2. An aria from an opera by a Russian composer of the XIX-XX centuries.

 

III round* (no more than 15 minutes):

  1. A romance by a Russian composer;
  2. A romance by a Western European composer;
  3. An aria up to the participant’s choice.

 

* It is obligatory for the participants of the III category (III round) to perform a piece from L. V. Myasnikova’s repertoire. The list of repertoire is attached below.

 

The IV category – professional performers, academic vocal teachers at schools, professional educational institutions and higher educational institutions (two rounds):

 

Program:

I round (no more than 15 minutes):

  1. An old aria of the XVII-XVIII centuries;
  2. A Russian romance;
  3. A folk song.

II round* (no more than 15 minutes):

  1. An aria by a Russian composer of the XIX-XX centuries;
  2. An aria by a Western European composer of the XIX-XX centuries;
  3. Произведение по выбору участника.

* It is obligatory for the participants of the IV category (II round) to perform a piece from L. V. Myasnikova’s repertoire. The list of repertoire is attached below.

The V category – vocal ensembles (duets, trios, quartets) (one round):

 

— group А: students of children’s music and art schools, children’s culture and art centres, vocal studios (no more than 8 minutes);

— group B: students of music colleges, colleges of culture and art (no more than 12 minutes);

— group С: students of higher educational institutions (no more than 15 minutes);

— group D: teachers at schools, colleges and higher educational institutions (no more than 20 minutes).

 

Program: two varied pieces performed by a single group.

 

FINANCIAL TERMS

 

The entrance fee is:

4000 roubles from a single participant of the I-IV categories;

5000 roubles from a duet;

6000 roubles from a trio;

8000 roubles from a quartet.

The fee should be paid either in cash when arriving at the Competition, or through the banking details provided at the website www.nsglinka.ru in the section “General Information” – “Structure of the Conservatoire” – “Banking Details”. In case of paying through bank details documents appropriate for drawing a contract are accepted no later than 10 days before the start of the Competition.

Travelling, food and accommodation expanses of the participants and those accompanying them shall be covered by themselves or by the organisations sending them.

RESULTS,

JURY AND ORGANIZING COMMITTEE’S RIGHTS

 

The Jury shall award a laureate or a diploma winner degree to worthy participants. The Jury has the right not to award all the diplomas, share one place among several participants, award the Grand Prix, special diplomas, prizes, “Best Accompanist” diploma, award the teachers and accompanists for preparing the laureates and diploma winners of the Competition. The Jury can decide to award prizes for the best performance of an obligatory piece from L. V. Myasnikova’s repertoire and other awards. The decision of the Jury is final and is not subject to reconsideration.

The Organizing Committee reserves all the rights on audio- and video recording of the participants’ performances and also on using these recordings for advertising, informational, and teaching purposes. The right to decide over any matters of dispute belongs to the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee.
